Founded in 2009 by Ketan Kapoor and Tanmoy Shingal, the company now has a long list of marquee clients and an expanding international presence across the IT, KPO, BPO, Education and Training, BFSI and Retail verticals.

Recipe for success
In my view, here are the 5 main ingredients for success:
• People with the right attitude who can persevere. We often use the phrase internally that 100 goats can’t match a lion and we prefer the Nadals over the Federers
• Constant learning (and unlearning). Building a scalable sustainable company involves different tools at different stages
• Focus. Just like an invisible hand, focus tends to significantly accelerate things. Its absence does just the opposite
• A large market. Even if you have the first three, building a large company requires a large market
• Timing. One needs to grasp the opportunity as and when it arrives
My suggestion to all budding entrepreneurs is to be as sincere and honest as possible in their initial pitch. Your seriousness and sense of purpose will definitely guide your way during the discussions.

Partnership with Kalaari
Kalaari came in very early-on in our journey and has been a constant force behind our progress. In my view here are a few key traits that make Kalaari unique. For one, they have practical, hands-on suggestions for a startup’s problems (we call it the “Dhartiputra” approach). They have a very professional problem-solving style and the knack of making the right bets (rather, the bets they make turn out to be right). We are truly thankful to Kalaari for supporting us for the last 3 years.
Your first meeting
Our first pitch was in Bangalore in early 2012 and we had about 6 months of runway. There were just two people from Kalaari and just me from Mettl. Less than five minutes into the pitch, Vani said that we could become the default assessment platform for the world (music to my ears!) Vani also expressed a desire to meet Tanmoy after the meeting. (We used to split the work between us so he couldn’t travel to the meeting and was busy building the product back in Gurgaon.) I don’t know exactly what Kalaari liked about us, but I do remember that I had a long discussion with Tanmoy right after the pitch.
